While perusing fashion articles on how to get the ‘mixed print’ look just right, I’ve come across a lot of conflicting information: keep prints in the same size, keep prints in the same color scheme, rely solely on your stylist because the ordinary citizen is simply not capable of mixing prints without hurting herself (this was advice from a celebrity, apparently for celebrities because what average woman has access to a stylist?)… anyway, the list goes on. And yet I’ve found that like most fashion rules, especially my own self-imposed ones, the rules of mixing prints are incredibly fun to break. I’m pretty sure these rules do not support a strong graphic stripe mixing with a bold pastel floral, and yet I’m absolutely in love with how this outfit came together – a little bit Prada s/s 2011, no?
So my new personal rule for mixing prints (and putting together a look in general) is: if it feels right, go with it.
