scuba dooba

vintage silk tee, scuba skater skirt (also similar here), h&m lace miniskirt, vintage clutch, bracelets, from top: custom spike friendship bracelet from my little fisheye shop, orange bangle from gae-tana’s in nola, asos spike bracelet, forever 21 altered necklace, charles jourdan gia sandals (similar here)

My obsession with neon rages on… Seriously, I was so psyched to find this skirt at Tobi; I’m pretty sure it’s the same one that’s in this photo.  As I was planning an outfit around my new skirt, I used a lace mini as a slip and to add a little extra volume and just couldn’t get over the way it looked when the lace peeked out a little.  A few strategically placed safety pins later, I had this fun bubbly peekaboo lace skirt/peplum thingy.  The contrast of textures and the fun silhouette make this hands-down my FAVORITE OUTFIT OF ALL TIME (which explains the goofy smile I’m wearing in these pics) and I’m beyond excited to wear it out tonight.  It might be a bit much for dinner and drinks, but hey, it’s fashion week somewhere…

I went to sell my clothes the other day, figuring I would make bank, since I had a decent haul of cool vintage stuff – a sequin leopard mini skirt, a neon techno-tribal silk dress, some awesome 70s blouses – the usual.  But if you’ve ever sold your clothes before, you know exactly how it went.  It’s a lot like that scene in Portlandia:  the employees generally make fun of every item you have (while you timidly defend your taste “that was for a themed party… the theme was ‘cats'”), then explain to you, in a tone usually reserved for five-year-olds who eat crayons, “your stuff wouldn’t really sell here…” though you aren’t sure what would, since over half the merchandise is covered in nasty stains, falling apart at the seams, or both (yay!).  Eventually, they return most of your items to you except a couple of Gap t-shirts you weren’t actually intending to sell, they just missed the laundry basket (no one said you were an NBA all-star!) and hand you $5.43 in store credit.

This sweet 90s tribal print miniskirt was one of my rejected items.  As you can see, it looks great for daytime with a pair of flats:The high waist is great for tucking a shirt into, or it can be worn casually with the shirt untucked:It even looks great with heels (though I don’t know what wouldn’t look great with these awesome Zara heels):And you can tuck the shirt back in if it’s Friday night and you’re going all out:forever 21 top (similar here) and teardrop pendant, vintage skirt and bag, low luv triangle necklace, asos watch and spike bracelet, neon bracelet from bauble bar, custom spike friendship bracelets from my little fisheye shop (and DIY here), vintage sperry topsiders (my grandma’s) / zara sandals

So I decided not only would I hold on to this skirt, I would show that resale shop what they’re missing!  Seriously, who wouldn’t take this??

open weave

forever 21 anorak and sweater, thrifted diane von furstenberg skirt, vintage clutch, zara sandals, custom spike friendship bracelets from my little fisheye shop, neon cord bracelet from bauble bar, similar here.

I’m embracing the sporty feel of this open-weave sweater.  It makes a great boxy silhouette paired with this vintage skirt.  And I’m sorry about the anorak overload in recent posts, I just can’t get over how I can throw it on over anything for a totally effortless look.

Happy Friday (the 13th)!!

key lime pie

forever 21 crossback silk top, necklace, and hat, mara hoffman dress (worn as skirt), dv by dolce vita archer sandals, asos clutch, custom spike friendship bracelets from my little fisheye shop, bangles from gae-tana’s in nola

I’m spending the next few days in Key West with my mom and my sister.  The tropical climate of course calls for easy maxi dresses, bright colors, and fun prints.  I’m not a huge fan of how this dress looks without a shirt covering it, but the back is very interesting, and I like how the cutout top allows the straps of the dress to show through.  The internet is a little (ok, a lot) slow here, but hopefully I can keep you updated with outfits and adventures!
