tough floral + giveaway

zara vest (similar), h&m dress, paradox body chain c/o, vintage clutch, betsey johnson ziah booties, inpink bracelet

I’ve had this sweet little floral dress for years now; it’s something I could never let go of.  So today I broke it out and toughened it up with my current favorite accessories: a zippered vest, ankle boots, and a silver body chain from the folks over at Paradox.

Paradox is a local Colorado brand that just launched a website featuring one-of-a-kind vintage and upcycled clothing and accessories.  And they’ve been nice enough to give one lucky NPT reader an item from their collection, these girly-meets-grunge high-waisted shredded floral shorts!

(the shorts comfortably fit a size small or medium)

To enter the giveaway:

1. Like Paradox on Facebook

2. Head over to the shopparadox.com, where there is a hidden code word – don’t worry, it will be easy to recognize!  Once you find it, send it to me in an email (kate.nopantstuesday@gmail.com) and you’ll be entered to win!  One winner will be selected at random, and the giveaway is open from now until next Tuesday at midnight.

Good luck to you all!

summer brights

forever 21 dress (worn as top), laugh cry repeat shorts, noir necklace (sold out but a few of these would look awesome layered), vintage sunglasses, asos clutch (similar), bauble bar bracelet (more neon here, here, here), zara flats

This color blocked outfit felt a little empty until I added the intense tribal collar.  Thoughts?

statement shorts

printed, from left: piamita bettie chain print shorts, mara hoffman high waisted shorts, bcbg maxazria kyle shorts, tibi gemma print shorts (more sizes here), mara hoffman mexican blanket shorts (more sizes here sequin, from left: bb dakota alba shorts (I just bought these and they’re awesome, but I recommend going down a size – mine were huge!), french connection mimosa mist sequin shorts, diane von furstenberg charlotte sequin shorts, french connection fast mini sequin shorts, lipsy sequin shorts

So… shorts.  Yes, I’ve hated on them before, not because I’m necessarily opposed to the idea of pants that stop mid-thigh, but because for so long it has seemed like the shorts on the market only flatter svelte size 0s with thighs that have never come into contact with each other.  Maybe I’ve just been shopping at the wrong stores.  But I’m starting to have a thing for statement shorts, from simple colorblocking to all-out crazy tribal prints.  And now I’ve added sequins to the collection (see above picture, far left).

When shopping for shorts, the right fit is obviously essential.  I’ve found that the most flattering pairs are cut with a higher waist (not necessarily belly-button height, but up above the hip bones helps to visually lengthen the legs) and a good flare to the leg so they don’t fit tight on the thighs.  I tend to size up in shorts to ensure enough room in the legs and butt – I can always get the waist taken in for the perfect fit.  (I tried to show options that follow these general guidelines.) Not convinced yet?  More than half of the shorts featured here are on sale.

fluro trim

american apparel sweatshirt, laugh cry repeat shorts, vintage necklaces, asos clutch (similar here and here), bauble bar neon bracelet (similar here, here, here), h&m yellow link bracelet and hinge ring, sam edelman yelena sandals

A smaller dose of neon today against some nice neutral shades.  As much as I hate buying shorts (see this post), I fell in love with these awesome neon trim ones from Laugh Cry Repeat.  They have a nice high-ish waist with a good amount of room in the legs (I went up a size to ensure a looser fit), a formula that proves most flattering for bigger thighs.  Honestly, I don’t know why all shorts aren’t made like these, it gets so frustrating shopping for shorts when all that are offered are low-cut, booty-cheek-displaying hotpants that look good on approximately .0082% of the population.  Yes?

Happy No Pants Tuesday!

back to basics

h&m blouse and bracelets, american apparel shorts, vintage pearl necklace, low luv triangle necklace, asos watch, vintage bag and shoes, american apparel vintage deadstock sunglasses

Today’s outfit is super-basic so I can show off these American Apparel shorts.  They were a little overpriced, but if you knew how many pairs of high rise cutoffs I’ve tried on searching for the perfect ones, you’d completely understand.  I was basically willing to trade my left kidney (it’s the weak one) for a pair of denim shorts that didn’t strangle my thighs and overexpose my cellulite.  Here they are!!

On another note, I decided to try a new makeup look today.  Normally I play up my eyes, but today I really craved a clean face with a bold red lip.  I like it, and the lack of eye makeup is great for those spontaneous crying fits (hey, no judgies!).

Thoughts?
