I love how a sequin blazer and heels elevate a pair of shredded denim cutoffs and a simple white tee.

Happy Friday!

Yet another no pants Tuesday has arrived, and with temperatures soaring into the 90s I resorted to an easy t-shirt and miniskirt combo.  As you can see, I’m still having a moment with exceptionally bright colors, paired again with my sweet new boots.  Today has been an excellent one so far; I got to pick dung beetles out of antelope poop.  I hope your Tuesday is going great as well!

vintage silk tee, honey punch scuba dooba skirt, h&m lace miniskirt, vintage clutch, bracelets, from top: custom spike friendship bracelet from my little fisheye shop, orange bangle from gae-tana’s in nola, asos spike bracelet, forever 21 altered necklace, charles jourdan gia sandals (similar here)

My obsession with neon rages on… Seriously, I was so psyched to find this skirt at Tobi; I’m pretty sure it’s the same one that’s in this photo.  As I was planning an outfit around my new skirt, I used a lace mini as a slip and to add a little extra volume and just couldn’t get over the way it looked when the lace peeked out a little.  A few strategically placed safety pins later, I had this fun bubbly peekaboo lace skirt/peplum thingy.  The contrast of textures and the fun silhouette make this hands-down my FAVORITE OUTFIT OF ALL TIME (which explains the goofy smile I’m wearing in these pics) and I’m beyond excited to wear it out tonight.  It might be a bit much for dinner and drinks, but hey, it’s fashion week somewhere…

forever 21 sweater (similar here) and hinged ring (love this one too), american apparel shorts and neon yellow nail lacquer, vintage clutch and sunglasses, asos watch (similar here) and spike bracelet, bauble bar neon cord bracelet, urban outfitters tiger bracelet, forever 21 neon stone bracelet (more cool neon wristwear here, here, and here), betsey johnson ziah booties

I’m finally embracing the upcoming summer season by incorporating little bits of neon into my accessories and nail polish.  This time I decided to dive in head first with this pink sweater.  I like the way it turned out; the neon looks really sharp against the light wash shorts (the same ones I obsessed over here) and the black accessories.  I like to think I pulled it off without looking like a college freshman at a dubstep concert…

Happy Friday!

a lesson in proportion

I talked myself into buying this Naven skirt because 1, it’s my favorite color 2, it’s silk, and 3, it has an exposed zipper (someday I’ll have to count the number of things I own solely based on their having exposed zippers – it’s always a selling point for me).  But when my new skirt finally arrived in the mail, I was less than enthusiastic about actually wearing it.  While the bubble silhouette looked great on the 5’11″, size 0 model, I didn’t find it nearly as flattering on my pear-shaped figure.  But as I learned, it’s all a matter of proportion.

At first I tried pairing the skirt with a simple tank and platform pumps, hoping to highlight my slender upper body and lengthen my legs, but the lack of volume on top only exaggerated my dewdrop shape, and the thick heels + miniskirt combo looked a little Las-Vegas-in-a-bad-way.  So I switched to a t-shirt and a pair of sandals, but the ankle straps on the shoes made my legs appear chunky, visibly adding weight to my lower body.  Finally, I decided on a billowy-but-sheer blouse, buttoned all the way up and sporting collar tips, which added enough volume to balance out the extra padding the skirt creates around my hips.  As a finishing touch I put on low heels with a pointed toe to lengthen my legs while avoiding looking like a cheese puff.

An easy outfit for another pantsless Tuesday.  Though a box clutch and a ruffled silk dress don’t seem casual at first, a denim jacket and a pair of nude oxfords bring this outfit down to earth.

I apologize for being absent from the blog for the last week or so.  My boyfriend and I just got back from his hometown of Knoxville, TN, where we visited his family and friends, hiked, ate delicious food, played various sports involving racquets, and most importantly, celebrated his mom’s graduation from her master’s program!  It was a busy and fun-filled weekend, and of course I only got around to taking one set of outfit photos.

But here they are!  I’m wearing this lovely mirror-print pencil skirt from Asos, which I adore for its longer length, somewhat looser fit, and Givenchy-esque design of mirrored palm trees, lagoons, and orchids.  Mirror-print is my favorite trend at the moment, and I hope that like the tribal print trend it will spend a long time on the runways and on the street.

It’s a gloomy, rainy day here in Denver, and what better way to counteract the associated feelings of lethargy than with photos of a bright, graphic outfit taken over the weekend?!

Happy Monday.
